Too often little known to the general public, saffron, which we call “red gold”, is one of the most expensive spices in the world. I would like to invite you to discover saffron farming in my establishment, “Safran des Aulnes“, half an hour from Dijon.
We will begin by visiting the saffron farm, where I will explain the specific elements of the plant (the botany, cultivation methods, history).
If you visit in October, during the blossoming season, you will be able to join me in harvesting and pruning the flowers, which involves extracting the precious pistils from the rest of the flower.
The little extras: at the end of the visit, I will teach you about the various ways to use saffron in cooking, by tasting saffron-flavoured products, made on my farm (jams, syrup…).
Please bring suitable shoes for walking on soil as well as rain-proof clothes in case of bad weather.
